US Implements Memorandum of Understanding with Regards to the US-Taiwan Trade Deal

On May 28, 2026, the US Trade Representative published a notice in the Federal Register implementing certain aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the US and Taiwan earlier this year in February 2026. Per the Notice, the US states that Taiwan has made recent steps to implement the MOU that “will have direct and positive impact on US production of steel, aluminum, copper, automobile parts, and wood products.

Retroactive back to May 1, 2026, certain goods from Taiwan will benefit from reduced Section 232 duties.

  • 15% maximum Section 232 duty – The Section 232 duty will be calculated based on the MFN rate of the imported good.
    • Automobile Parts
    • Timber
    • Lumber
    • Wood Derivatives
  • 0% Section 232 duty
    • Steel, Aluminum, Copper related to aircraft components of Taiwan.

  • 99037624 – Wood Products
  • 99039466 – Automobile Parts
  • 99039467 – Automobile Parts
  • 99039468 – Automobile Parts
